Lectures

April 9 - 10, 2009

Reporter: Yamamoto (Sharp)

I attended the meeting of the international workshop "C3D World" which was organized for the first time by the China 3D Industry Association (C3D) established in October 2008 as an industry organization related to stereoscopic images in China. I made a brief introduction on the activities of the 3D Consortium and a presentation on the overview of the current situation in the 3D industry.

Summary of event
Date: April 9 (Thu) - April 10, 2009 (Fri)
Venue: "Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center", Shenzhen, Guangdong, China
Number of participants: Around 120 persons

The China 3D Industry Association (C3D) was established in October 2008 as the first industry organization in China which specializes in stereoscopic images. Currently, it has around 20 company members. The Association has local display (TV) manufacturers such as TCL and KONKA, major panel manufacturers such as AUO and international companies such as Philips as its members. This event was planned to be simultaneously held with the 73rd China Electronics Fair, which is one of the biggest exhibitions in the field in China, and consisted of development of a specially installed 3D pavilion at the Fair and a 3D conference. The presentation by the 3D Consortium was held according to the invitation by Mr. Levin Tang, Secretary General of C3D who participated together in the opening event of the Korea 3D Fusion Industry Consortium (3DFIC) in February 2009 in Seoul.
There were exhibits from several companies including photo frames with 3D display functions (by using a lenticular lens which can switch to 2D) and demonstrations (by using a projector) of 3D contents (high quality still images by using a twin-lens camera) were held in the 3D pavilion. Their technical levels were not necessarily high yet, however, development work seems to have been proceeded very ardently.

During the workshop, the philosophy and activities of the 3D Consortium were presented and the latest topics in the global 3D industry were introduced. Participants of around 120 persons enthusiastically listened to the presentation which was very impressive. The Fusion Industry Consortium (3DFIC) from Korea and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan, R.O.C. (ITRI) also made presentations. At the end of the sessions, the basic policy that enhances development of the 3D industry from Asia under cooperation among China (and Taiwan), Japan and Korea was reconfirmed and the "Shenzhen 3D Declaration" which followed the contents of the Akihabara 3D Declaration and the Seoul 3D Declaration was adopted and the curtain was brought down.
