SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on computer GRAPHics), a world-class computer graphic event which has been organized annually, was held in Los Angeles, USA. It was held in Vancouver, Canada last year; the venue has been returned to the United States this year. Since the location was close to Hollywood, a movie Mecca, it ended successfully by having many visitors from the movie industry.
SIGGRAPH has been attracting a great deal of attention from all over the world as a place for presentations of research about digital video technologies and methods. At the venue of the event exhibition, exhibitors including Pixar tried to promote new categories of 3D technologies related to digital content production, 3D games, 3D computer graphics movies, 3D printers, etc.
As a part of its international activities, the 3D Consortium continued its participation in the exhibition with its own booth at the venue. Three member companies, which were Newsight Japan Ltd., EIZO Nanao Corporation and Fujiwara-Rothchild, Ltd., jointly exhibited at the booth. Simultaneously, the activities by the 3D Consortium were introduced and the 3D industry in Japan was promoted there. After the closing of the exhibition, participating members toured the city center of Los Angeles and gathered information related to 3D. In terms of expressions and display of 3D video, the application of systems utilizing 3D expressions seems to be progressing, represented by the introduction of products by using naked eye 3D display equipment at drug stores.
