3D Consortium study session organized by the Technical
Sub-committee
(Venue: Fun Theater in Headquarters Mirai-Kenkyusho
of NAMCO BANDAI Games, Higashi-Shinagawa)
|
|

|
|
The first 3D Consortium Study Session this year was
organized by the Technical Sub-committee at the Fun
Theater in Headquarters Mirai-Kenkyusho of NAMCO BANDAI
Games on June 9, 2008.
The theme was "Trends toward standardization
of 3D displays and the latest trends of displays".
Recently, interest in 3D displays through the use
of glasses has accelerated by popularization of 3D
movies in the movie industry and the start of 3D broadcasting
by BS11. In accordance with this background, this study session
was focused on the latest movements toward standardization
of 3D displays which support the popularization of
3D displays and the latest trends of displays. Concerning
standardization, as there were important movements
in terms of standardization of digital camera formats
by CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association)
and standardization of 3D measurement by ISO, we invited
experts who are at the forefront of each field as
lecturers to explain about the current situation.
Concerning the activities by the 3D Stereoscopic Brain
Training WG (working group) in the 3D Consortium which
has been aggressively meeting since last year, progress
reports were made on the outline of its proposal to
the Japanese government.
There were 41 members at the study session for a total
of 74 people attending.

"Trends of international standardization by ISO
concerning 3D displays"
Group Leader,
Multimodal Integration Research Group, Institute for
Human Science and Biomedical Engineering, National Institute
of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology
Mr.
Hiroyasu Ujike
<Outline
of lecture>
According to advancements in display technologies, large,
high-resolution displays and 3D displays have been developed
which have led to an unprecedented expansion in the
use of video. On the other hand, concerns have been
raised about motion sickness and visual fatigue caused
by 3D images. In the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO), the International Workshop Agreement
3 (IWA3:2005) regarding image safety to reduce undesirable
biomedical effects was issued and international standardization
which covers limited types of 3D displays is proceeding.
This lecture explained about the latest trends for this
standardization.

"Production technology for digital contents '3D
stereoscopic' and its past and future"
Assistant
of President, P-7 Company, Namco Bandai Games Inc.
Mr.
Atsushi Miyazawa
<Outline
of lecture>
Since last year, the future of new digital contents,
"3D stereoscopic", has attracted more attention
as represented by the daily introduction of the appeal
of 3D images by a BS digital broadcasting station. In
this lecture, visions of the future of 3D images in
the amusement industry from the standpoint of the game
business were presented based on consideration of its
past.
