On November 28, a study session was organized by the Contents Section under the theme "Actual application cases of 3D and the latest technical trends" under the cooperation by the Toshiba Science Museum which is organizing "3D innovation exhibition - 3D boom to 3D life", an exhibition which presents the history and technical trends of 3D. This time, the study session was organized as the first part at the AB Hall of the Toshiba Science Museum and an observation tour of the "3D innovation exhibition" was organized as the second part.
Experts of various fields such as "broadcasting", "medical services" and "creative production" were invited for introduction of actual application cases of 3D.
There were 19 members at the study session for a total of 55 people attending.

"3D shooting/broadcasting of the London 2012 Olympic Games"

Competitions during the London 2012 Olympic Games were broadcasted in 3D for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games. This lecture will introduce the reality related to the 3D shooting and broadcasting of the Olympic Games including the introduction of a 3D camera recorder "AG-3DP1" to the system which uses outdoor broadcasting vans and ENG operations.

We handle recording, editing and sales of 3D high definition medical surgery contents. Laparotomies, microscopes and endoscopes are used to record surgeries in 3D. Challenges and prospects of each shooting method and viewing environments will be covered by this lecture. In addition, a naked eye live 3D demonstration experiment by using a robot for surgeries "daVinci" will be held and results of questionnaire by doctors toward naked eye 3D will be introduced.

How 3D has been recognized and developed in the creative world, especially in Hollywood and one way of thinking in terms of three aspects of 3D, which are 3D contents, 3D playback devices and 3D delivery, based on the periodic background will be reported. Also how the industrialization and commercialization is being developed in other countries will be introduced, and my personal opinion about how Japanese companies/industries shall compete with other countries in the competitive climate in terms of contents, media and displays will be presented.
